Before-and-after defect repair photos: how to make the comparison useful

Keep the original defect ID, repeat a safe viewpoint and retest the original behaviour instead of relying on a cleaner-looking photo.

Start from the original record

Locate the original defect ID, room and overview photo before reinspection. A new numbering system breaks the link to the submitted issue. Keep the original ID, reinspection date, new evidence and actual observation together. Record a genuinely new issue separately and describe its relationship to the old location.

Repeat the viewpoint and reference

From a safe position, take an overview and close-up with similar direction, distance and lighting. A frame, cabinet edge or wall corner provides a fixed reference. Do not climb or take a risky position for a perfect match. Note changed conditions, such as new furniture obscuring the area, rather than treating incomparable images as proof.

Retest the original behaviour

If a door originally stuck, a cleaner photo does not establish normal operation. Repeat its normal movement in the original direction. If a drawer would not close, retest that drawer. Record what you actually checked, rather than adopting “The contractor said it is done” as your own result. Technical tests belong with the relevant qualified personnel.

Use three clear result categories

Write “Original condition not observed this time”, “Original condition remains visible” or “Unable to check this visit”, with a reason. The first is not a permanent guarantee about concealed conditions or future performance. The second needs a specific location. The third needs a follow-up action, such as clearing access or arranging another visit.

Example reinspection note

“Original item W07: discolouration near the main-bedroom window. Rechecked on 11 October 2026. Photos R01–R02 from the original viewpoint still show the boundary of the discoloured area; its visible extent appears smaller than before. Further follow-up required.” A change in colour does not establish that an underlying cause is resolved.

Keep comparison evidence connected

Use Wefect to organise the room, defect location, photos and description. Retain a consistent location and ID and write the date plus the new observation in the description before generating the required PDF under your plan. Keep the original evidence as well as the latest images so future discussions have a comparison basis.

Use Wefect to organise your findings

Keep photos, room names, descriptions and locations connected, then prepare an English PDF according to your plan.
