What to Bring for a New Home Defect Inspection in Malaysia

A small, well-chosen kit is better than carrying tools you do not know how to use. The goal is to support safe visual and basic functional checks while keeping documentation easy.

Phone and power

Your phone is the main evidence tool, so start with a charged battery, enough free storage and a power bank. Clean the camera lens before starting.

Floor plan

Bring the floor plan as an image, PDF or printed reference. In Wefect, the plan can also be used to establish rooms and place numbered defect locations.

Flashlight

A compact flashlight helps with darker corners, under-sink areas and visible service spaces that can be inspected safely without entering restricted areas.

Tile tapping tool or coin

A light, consistent tapping tool helps compare neighbouring tiles. Use it gently and avoid causing damage.

Socket tester

A suitable consumer socket tester can support basic outlet checks when used according to the device instructions. It does not replace professional electrical testing.

What not to bring into DIY scope

Do not use the inspection as a reason to open electrical panels, dismantle fixtures, climb into unsafe areas or perform tests beyond your skill level.

Wefect scope: Wefect guides and documents homeowner checks. It does not provide structural, electrical, waterproofing, safety or legal certification.
