Identify the floor-trap configuration first
Different floor-trap designs require different preparation. A removable plastic cover and a tiled finish around the drain should not be treated as identical setups.
Use a controlled sealing method
For a removable plastic configuration, a temporary barrier method may involve plastic and suitable tape around the opening. For a tiled configuration, a temporary mouldable barrier may be more appropriate around the drain area.
The objective is temporary, controlled sealing — not permanent modification.
Observe, document and stop if unsafe
Photograph the initial condition, water level or relevant reference points, and any visible leakage or unusual behaviour. Stop if water begins entering unintended areas or if the setup cannot be controlled safely.
What to put in the report
Record what you actually observed: the test setup, approximate duration, visible water behaviour and any resulting visible indicators. Avoid claiming the exact waterproofing cause unless it has been assessed professionally.
Frequently asked questions
Does no visible leakage prove waterproofing is perfect?
No. A DIY observation does not certify waterproofing performance.
Should I follow developer instructions?
Yes. Follow property rules, access conditions and any developer instructions that apply to the unit and handover process.
